The aim of the CIMNZ New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5) – Management strand is to develop graduates who can contribute to operational objectives in Aotearoa New Zealand entities by applying business knowledge, working with stakeholders, communicating clearly and supporting practical management activities in ethical, inclusive and Te Tiriti-informed ways.
The Management strand focus is operational rather than specialist or strategic at degree level. Graduates are expected to contribute to planning, resource and process management, sustainable practice and decision evaluation at a Level 5 standard, using practical tools, evidence and workplace-style outputs.
The programme consists of eight core modules covering academic skills:
Eight compulsory 15-credit courses:
- ACCT101 Foundations of Accounting;
- BUSC101 Business Communication;
- BUSS101 Business Statistics;
- ECON101 Business Economics;
- ITIS101 Information Technology and Business Processes;
- LAWS101 Fundamentals of Business Law;
- MGMT101 Management; and
- MKTG101 Marketing.
- Analyse the operational impact of internal and external environments on an entity to inform decision-making.
- Apply knowledge of business principles and practices and contribute operationally to support innovation, performance, and organisational change in an entity.
- Develop and maintain operational business relationships with stakeholders to support the performance of an entity.
- Communicate clear and concise business information with internal and external stakeholders to meet operational objectives of an entity.
- Evaluate how Te Tiriti o Waitangi is reflected in an entity’s operations and relationships, and recommend operational activities and approaches to strengthen bi-cultural engagement.
- Apply ethical and inclusive practices to contribute to the performance of an entity.
- Contribute to business planning to support an entity’s performance.
- Manage resources and processes for an entity’s performance.
- Implement and manage sustainable practices for an entity’s performance.
- Evaluate business decisions and decision-making processes to contribute to an entity’s performance.
New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 4)
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Completion of Level 3 New Zealand Certificate Language (Academic) OR
- An internationally recognised English language proficiency test (per NZQA rules) OR
- Pass CIMNZ’s internal placement test
- Valid student visa
New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 5)
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Completion of Level 4 New Zealand Certificate Language (Academic) OR
- An internationally recognised English language proficiency test (per NZQA rules) OR
- Pass CIMNZ’s internal placement test
- Valid Student visa
New Zealand Diploma of Business (Level 5)
Applicants must meet one of the following entry pathways:
- NZQF Level 4 qualification or higher, or an equivalent local or international qualification; OR
- NCEA Level 3 or another secondary school qualification assessed by CIMNZ as suitable for Level 5 study; OR
- Applicants without the standard entry requirement may be considered if they can show equivalent readiness through work experience, prior study, a CV, references, interview and/or diagnostic check.
English language entry for international students:
Evidence of English language proficiency that meets NZQA and CIMNZ requirements for Level 5 study, for example IELTS Academic 5.5 with no band below 5.0, or an accepted equivalent.
