Professor Christopher Gan is a Professor of Finance and the Head of the Department of
Financial and Business Systems at Lincoln University, New Zealand. He also serves as the
Director of the Master of Business (Finance) programme, a position he has held since 2018.
Professor Gan holds a PhD from Louisiana State University, a Master’s degree from Indiana
State University, and a BA in Economics and Business Administration from Warren Wilson
College, USA. He is internationally recognised for his research leadership in banking,
microfinance, stock markets, and Asian financial economics, with a strong quantitative and
applied approach. His work has informed policy recommendations for governments,
development agencies, and the private sector.
Professor Gan has published extensively in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and is regularly
cited by international scholars. He serves on several editorial boards and is currently the Chief
Editor of the Review of Applied Economics. His dedication to teaching has earned him multiple
awards, including the National Teaching Excellence Award in 2003.
At Lincoln University, Professor Gan has held numerous leadership roles, including Director
of the Postgraduate Committee, Head of the Department of Economics and Finance, Member
of the Academic Board, and Director of the Lincoln University-Yunus Social Business Centre.
He also served on the Advisory Board of the Single Global Currency Association (USA) from
2005 to 2015.
Fluent in English and Malay, and conversational in Cantonese, Professor Gan is deeply
committed to cross-cultural academic engagement and the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals, particularly those related to economic growth, poverty reduction, and
social equity. He remains actively involved in mentorship, postgraduate supervision,
collaborative research projects, and international academic panels.
